L'altoparlante wireless Bluetooth Marshall Woburn II è il modello più grande dell'azienda e una versione aggiornata della linea di prodotti Woburn. Come la maggior parte degli altoparlanti Marshall, questo è progettato per assomigliare all'aspetto della loro famosa linea di amplificatori per chitarra. Detto questo, il Woburn II può sembrare un po' scarso per un nuovo prodotto Bluetooth. È essenzialmente solo un altoparlante wireless con poche funzionalità aggiuntive.

Guarda e senti

Gli altoparlanti Marshall Bluetooth assomigliano tutti ai loro iconici amplificatori per chitarra di qualche grado. Il Woburn II è grande quanto molti amplificatori da studio, 41 x 31 x 20 cm (15,8 x 12,2 x 7,9 pollici) e pesa 8,6 kg (18,9 libbre), quindi può essere facilmente scambiato per uno.

Il cabinet bass reflex è rivestito in Tolex nero, marrone o bianco. E presenta un tessuto griglia grigio intrecciato decorato con un grande logo Marshall in plastica con lettere dorate e una striscia di finiture in alluminio anodizzato dorato abbinate nella parte inferiore.

Il massimo del rock and roll...

Sulla parte superiore del case ci sono i controlli di controllo dell'utente montati su una placca in oro spazzolato, con manopole realizzate nello stesso stile dei loro iconici amplificatori. Quattro grandi piedini in gomma assicurano che rimanga saldamente in posizione. Nel complesso, trasuda decisamente una forte atmosfera rock and roll .

Il pannello posteriore è coperto da note legali e avvertenze, quindi sembra posizionato meglio vicino a un muro in cui quel lato è nascosto. Sul retro sono presenti anche una coppia di jack di ingresso RCA e una porta di servizio.

Controlli utente

Sul pannello superiore da sinistra a destra c'è un jack di ingresso da 1/8 di pollice (3,5 mm) e un interruttore a pressione per selezionare questo jack, i connettori RCA sul pannello posteriore o l'ingresso Bluetooth.

Al centro ci sono le manopole di controllo per Volume, Bassi e Alti. Le piccole barre attorno a ciascun controllo sono in realtà piccoli LED rossi, quindi è facile visualizzare le impostazioni dell'amplificatore anche in condizioni di scarsa illuminazione. A destra delle manopole c'è un pulsante di pausa di riproduzione e l'interruttore di alimentazione principale.

Woburn II funziona con una tensione di ingresso di 100 – 240 volt a 50 o 60 Hertz, quindi può essere utilizzato ovunque nel mondo senza un adattatore. Sfortunatamente, non è possibile collegare un pacco batteria.

Potenza rock and roll

The Woburn II is a stereo speaker system. It comes with two 5.25-inch bass speakers and two 1-inch tweeters. The speakers are individually powered by Class D amps that provide 50 watts to each bass speaker and 15 watts to each tweeter .

All this power means that Woburn II can pump out sound levels of up to 110 decibels, with a full-range frequency response of 30 – 20,000 Hz, loud enough to keep all your neighbors awake all night!

Bluetooth Wireless Connectivity

Woburn II utilizes Bluetooth 5.0 and aptX technology , so it can receive an audio signal up to 30 feet (10 meters) away. You can stream music directly to the speaker from a smartphone, computer, or other wireless media device. Plus, this Bluetooth revision allows you to connect two devices to the Woburn II at the same time.

AptX is an improved compression technology that works with Bluetooth to provide almost CD quality audio. It also minimizes latency, which is important for watching video.

And you can control it from your phone!

The free Marshall Bluetooth app lets you get firmware updates and create custom EQ settings using its five-band EQ. You can also use it to adjust the LED brightness, pair the Woburn II with another speaker, or put it to sleep and wake it up.

How Does it Sound?

The Marshall Woburn II’s large woofers coupled with dual bass ports on the back of the cabinet ensure a powerful low-end response all the way down to sub-bass frequencies. Some users might find it to be too bassy, even with the bass control rolled back.

On the other hand, the high end is crisp and bright, with plenty of sparkle in the upper ranges where cymbals and vocal sibilants reside. Overall the sound is excellent, especially at high listening levels , which one would expect considering its price.

What’s Missing?

The Woburn II is just a speaker. It doesn’t provide any special connectivity features like Spotify Connect or AirPlay. And there is no support for digital assistants like Alexa or even Wi-Fi for multi-room audio.

A battery option would be a nice addition, so the speaker could be used outdoors. Also, the package doesn’t include any cables, a surprising omission in a product at this price. Finally, since it looks like a Marshall guitar amp, a guitar input would be a nice added feature.

Marshall Woburn II Wireless Bluetooth Speaker – Final thoughts

The Marshall Woburn II is an excellent choice if you enjoy listening to music at medium to high volume levels with a full-range frequency response and powerful bass. You can use it wirelessly or connect devices through the two external input connectors. And it really looks like a Marshall amp, adding a rock and roll vibe to your living room.

On the downside, it offers fewer internet options than similar models from other manufacturers. This might or might not be important to you. And since it won’t run on batteries, it’s not very portable.
